|ASICS GEL-Dedicate 4||Synthetic||Mesh upper|
|Nike Air Vapor Advantage||Rubber||Lightweight combination|
|ASICS GEL-Resolution 6||Rubber||Propriety upper|
|Adidas Performance Adizero Ubersonic||Rubber||Polymer-reinforced mesh upper|
There are many shoes advertised as favorable for tennis games, but we knew that not all of them can withstand countless bouts.
We checked for durability, comfort, and performance, among others. Without further ado, let’s learn more about these tennis shoes for men.
Adidas Performance Barricade 2016 – Combining Casual and Athletic Styles
As you might have already expected, Adidas has long been known for manufacturing the best tennis sneakers for men. The brand has been around for more than half a century, and it has established itself as one of the world’s biggest sportswear manufacturers.
With the Adidas Performance Men’s Barricade 2016 tennis shoe, we felt that Adidas has found the perfect balance between style and function.
The lower sections of the tennis shoes evoke a sense of sports action while the middle and upper areas give it a casual, clean look that anyone can appreciate.
Composed mostly of a mix of textile and synthetic materials, the Barricade 2016 seems to have been a welcome improvement of the 2015 variant. We liked the Barricade 2015 as well, but the updated version just feels more refined than ever.
Like other men’s tennis shoes, the Barricade 2016 utilizes thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to enable several features. First, this kind of plastic helps give the tennis shoes an elastic and transparent feel.
Second, the TPU adds grease and abrasion resistance. As we walked around field and arenas, our feet never really felt worn out – all thanks to the AdiPRENE technology applied in both the forefoot and in the heel area.
We believe that other companies have their own exemplary cushioning to be proud of, but Adidas has really taken an extra step with the notable impact absorption of the tennis shoes.
Furthermore, the Barricade 2016 was comfortable without feeling like they would slide off. These tennis shoes fit well and had a nice grip around the feet.
We were quite eager to test these out on the tennis court. If there’s one thing we realized early on, it’s that the Barricade 2016 was meant for tennis players who like to be on the offensive.
In particular, those of us who liked taking sudden risks and charges in the court were amply supported by these shoes. They were flexible to the extent that changing directions while playing was easy.
Since aggressive styles always demand pressure, it was a good thing that these Adidas tennis shoes were extremely durable.
Everything was going well until we realized that there was a slight issue with the shoelaces. In particular, a few of us found the shoelaces to be a bit sharp. They didn’t cause any injuries whatsoever, but they were sharp enough to be a cause of mild annoyance during games. Thankfully, this is easily solved by replacing them with new laces.
Furthermore, you might have an issue with its grip in the top area. At least two of us felt that our ankles were about to get injured if we played for another hour of tennis. If you are not an incredibly aggressive player, this won’t likely happen to you.
But if you are one, make sure to use the Barricade 2016 lightly during the first several games to break them in before maximizing its use. This should allow you to take advantage of its flexibility and grip without getting hurt.
This should allow you to take advantage of its flexibility and grip without getting hurt.
In fact, these lightweight and stylish shoes don’t have any major issues. Apart from some minor and preferential issues with the laces and the initial fit, the Barricade 2016 is a strong contender for the best tennis shoes of 2018.
They are comfortable, flexible, and durable enough to withstand long hours of tennis each day.
What We Liked
- Stylish as a casual and a sports footwear
- Stellar cushioning and comfort
- Lightweight and flexible
- Durable with a generally decent grip
What We Didn’t Like
- Initial fit could affect ankles during games
- Slightly sharp shoelaces can be mildly irritating
ASICS GEL-Dedicate 4 – Premium Features for Entry-Level Shoes
This Japanese athletic equipment brand just managed to capture our eyes with the ASICS GEL-Dedicate 4. The company is more known as a maker of running shoes, but we believe tennis players will soon discover that ASICS is also a common sight on the list of tennis shoe brands.
With its leather material, we couldn’t help but feel that this was a premium tennis shoe – even though it’s being marketed as an entry-level sports shoe. The iconic monochromatic colors utilized also keep them fashionably appropriate. Still, we soon found out why its looks might have been a bit deceiving, particularly in the tennis course.
The iconic monochromatic colors utilized also keep them fashionably appropriate. Still, we soon found out why its looks might have been a bit deceiving, particularly in the tennis course.
The GEL-Dedicate 4 is not remarkably comfortable as the Adidas Barricade 2016 with its AdiPRENE technology, but the GEL cushioning system does its job fine.
One of the things that made it comfortable was its sizeable toe box. There was ample space for our toes to move and prevent any stuffy experiences.
One thing we did notice was that even as a tennis shoe, they felt heavier than the other tennis shoes we tried. It’s not exactly a bad thing, but it was certainly unusual. Still, the GEL-Dedicate 4 succeeded in breathability thanks to its perforated overlays.
What we appreciated about these shoes is that they were good to use immediately. By this, we mean that there was no trial runs needed to break them in. Our ankles never got uneasy over the fear of getting blisters.
The moment we put them on, we were ready to compete without hesitation. Rapid turns gave no problems whatsoever due to the solid rubber outsole, which ensured optimum traction.
However, these tennis shoes for men weren’t made to withstand long matches. Sure, you could use them during a series of short games as long as there are quick breaks between them.
But during a tiring, back-and-forth game of tennis, the GEL-Dedicate 4 will start to become less comfortable.
Worse, using them continuously for several hours of playing made us feel the heaviness of the tennis shoes. Yes, they are durable, but this characteristic does not help if the cushioning becomes subpar.
What We Liked
- Stylish, monochrome look
- ?Decent breathability
- ?Quick and easy to break in
- Sizeable toe box
What We Didn’t Like
- Relatively heavy
- Cushioning not suitable for long games
Nike Air Vapor Advantage – Amazing Impact Absorption and Traction
Tennis shoe reviews wouldn’t be complete without an entry from Adidas’ global competitor Nike. The Air Vapor Advantage sports a seemingly bulky appearance. Combined with navy blue color, these tennis shoes for men – made of a mix of synthetic and mesh – evoke a sense of calm and control.
We wondered if they are as durable as they looked, and we were definitely pleased with them.
Don’t let the appearance fool you into thinking they don’t allow flexibility. Despite the appearance, the Air Vapor Advantage actually is actually quite light and has enough features to keep it comfortable.
In fact, we found that it was just as comfortable as the Adidas Performance Barricade 2016. Taking quick jogs and walks with them was a breeze. In general, our movement was fine.
Some of us found the shoelaces to be a bit short, but once again, these can be solved by simply buying a new pair. Still, it would have been better if they were long enough, to begin with.
In the tennis court, we think that the Nike Air Vapor Advantage could go head-to-head with the Adidas Performance Barricade 2016.
Of course, we shouldn’t have expected anything less since these tennis shoes were apparently influenced by Roger Federer’s favorite shoe known as the Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour.
We wouldn’t be surprised if the women’s Nike tennis shoes were included on the list for the best tennis shoes for women. If a tennis game will last longer than expected, you can readily rely on these shoes to keep you going.
The XDR rubber – otherwise known as Xtra Durable Rubber – utilized by Nike greatly enhances the durability of their sports performance shoes.
We were already tired and sweaty after a couple of games, but at least our feet weren’t hurt or anything. This is most likely because of the impact-cushioning heel Air-Sole unit located in the midsole.
Likewise, the same rubber compound offers superb traction.
Whether we were on grass courts, clay courts, or hard courts, we felt that our desired game moves were not hampered by the conditions of the area. Nike impressed us even further when we realized that a mid-foot shank was included to maintain stability.
If we were hardcore tennis players, these could very well have been our first choice as the best tennis shoes 2017 for men.
What We Liked
- Durable build
- ?Comfortable and fantastic impact-cushioning
- ?Great traction
- Enhances stability
What We Didn’t Like
- Shoelaces are relatively short
ASICS GEL-Resolution 6 – Comfort and Durability Packed In One
When we said that ASICS has established itself as a prominent tennis shoe manufacturer, we weren’t kidding. If the style and toe box structure of the GEL-Dedicate 4 weren’t to your liking, you should try the GEL-Resolution 6.
For us, this is one of the most interesting examples of what the best tennis shoes for men in 2018 should be like. Noted as the culmination of ASICS’ expertise on creating comfortable tennis shoes, the GEL-Resolution 6 was our favorite for many of our tennis matches.
For casual purposes, the GEL-Resolution 6 is incredibly comfortable. This is due to the FluidRide construction that ASICS developed to support the midfoot and the forefoot. Each step we took was light, and the breathability of the shoes was excellent.
Furthermore, people who have incredibly pronated feet will be satisfied and rightly refer to these as the best sneakers for arch support. Sadly, people who expected the same build from this Resolution variant will be disappointed.
Starting with the ASICS GEL-Resolution 4, the tennis shoes became narrower than the previous iteration. Several people were also bummed when the commendable heel support in the GEL-Resolution 5 was removed.
If you’re one of them, you will not like the fact that the GEL-Resolution 6 sports another narrow build with no thick heel support.
ASICS did include an external heel counter, which promised to develop midfoot support and improve stability. Unfortunately, the overall heel support in the GEL-Resolution 6 was underwhelming.
As we’ve said before, the GEL-Resolution 6 became our favorite shoes for quite some time. For several weeks, we utilized these tennis shoes for men and found that they are really durable.
We thought that sections of the sole would start to wear out – but we were wrong. There were barely any signs of wearing out. The ASICS PGuard Toe Protector, ASICS High Abrasion Rubber, and the impressively light Solyte material did enhance durability.
Whether we were dashing for a half-volley or a drop shot, these tennis shoes for men readily absorbed each impact to keep us going. In none of our games, using the GEL-Resolution 6, did we experience any blisters or feet injuries whatsoever.
What We Liked
- Incredibly comfortable
- ?Extremely durable
- ?Good for people with severely pronated feet
- Impressive impact absorption
What We Didn’t Like
- Narrower build than previous versions
- Underwhelming heel support
Adidas Performance Adizero Ubersonic – Formidable Lightweight Endurance
Finally, we have the Adizero Ubersonic from Adidas. The company has built a strong following with its Barricade line of tennis shoes, but the Ubersonic has a thing or two up its sleeve to get the attention of athletes.
Specifically, aggressive tennis players will have a hard time choosing whether the Ubersonic or the Barricade 2016 is the better tennis footwear for their playing style.
These tennis shoes were designed to keep the feet as close to the ground as possible. We weren’t initially sure why it was like that, but we soon realized that such proximity allowed better foot stability.
Furthermore, we really appreciated the easy yet firm fit of the Adizero Ubersonic. The toe box felt adequate in size, and heel slippage never occurred while running around the park or conducting quick exercises.
The only gripe we had was that the tennis shoes were a tad narrow and rigid for those with relatively big feet. We hoped that constant use would solve the issue, but the slight discomfort remained.
What makes the Adizero Ubersonic impressive in the tennis court is its SprintFrame chassis, which ensured foot support without being heavy. In a sport like tennis, a combination of lightness and stability is much desired.
We always have to predict the opponent’s moves, and our responses need to be quickly yet precisely executed. These shoes allowed us to take hasty yet calculated turns to bring the tennis ball to the other side of the court.
Furthermore, the Adizero Ubersonic outperformed other tennis shoes for men in the hard courts and clay courts. It’s easy to declare them as the best hard court tennis shoes of 2018. Its lightness and durability significantly kept us on the winning side of the court.
What We Liked
- Impressively lightweight
- ?Adequate toe box
- ?Incredibly durable
- Provides sufficient stability
What We Didn’t Like
- Feels narrow and rigid for large feet
We’ve spent several months playing tennis games in different courts for our best tennis shoes review – and we’ve got the results.
From traction and appearance to comfort and durability, our top-rated men’s tennis shoes have proven their worth. The short shoelaces of the Nike Air Vapor Advantage kept it from claiming the top spot – but it’s still a close second.
In fact, these are the best shoes for playing tennis you can have if you have large feet.
But our pick for the best tennis shoes for men are the Adidas Performance Adizero Ubersonic. While other shoes are also durable, none of them are as lightweight yet formidable as the Adizero Ubersonic.
The goal of these shoes is to keep the feet as close to the ground as possible to ensure complete foot support – and they nailed it. The SprintFrame chassis is a superior feature, and it ensures long-lasting comfort, stability, and reliability during the most grueling matches.
Best of all, the Adizero Ubersonic require no breaking in to feel adjusted. On the contrary, these shoes are good to go the moment you wear them. Without a doubt, these are the best tennis shoes for tennis players.
Hopefully, with this list, we’ve helped you choose the best tennis shoes that suit your personal preferences and requirements on the tennis court.
