Gaiam Cargo Full Zip – Best Budget Product
The Full-Zip Cargo Pocket Gaiam Yoga Bag is one of the best ways to keep your yoga mat clean, dry, and portable with a not only beautiful but functional design.
The bag is a more fashionable and functional take on a classic design that has worked for years; however, we think that this product is definitely an upgrade, featuring an adjustable shoulder strap, front and rear pockets, and a full-zipper closure.
The all-in-one Gaiam yoga bag lets you not only carry your mat, but also your yoga accessories and the essentials, like your keys, ID, and credit cards. The full zipper closure lets you take your mat out and put it bag in quickly and easily without having to hassle its way in.
In addition, there’s also a conveniently-located smartphone/mp3 player pocket on the rear of the bag that even features a headphone slip to keep your cords tangle-free (yes, it is possible!).
The bag itself is made of 100% cotton, so as you can probably imagine, it’s very soft. Despite that, it’s actually quite durable. The size of the bag is 25″ x 6″, and can fit most standard yoga mats.
The only thing we didn’t really like was the fact that if the yoga mat is a tight fit, it’s pretty difficult to even attempt to use the mp3/phone pocket and the front cargo pocket.
Overall, the bag is a pretty inexpensive product that does what it says, plus a little more. It comes in various fashionable designs and colors, and is adjustable to the height you need it to be!
What We Liked
- Comes in an array of different colors and designs
- Full-zipper closure makes it easy to take the mat out and put it in
- Smartphone/mp3 player pocket with headphone slip
- Carry your keys, ID, and cards in the extra pockets
What We Didn’t Like
- Difficult to use the phone pocket and front cargo pocket if the mat is a snug fit
Manduka Go Play – Most Minimal Product
This Manduka Yoga Mat Bag is one of the most popular on the market today. The Go Play is made of OEKO-TEX-certified 100% polyester, making it nice and durable; resistant against tears and scratches that so many other yoga mats have trouble with.
Suitable for all mat sizes, you don’t have to worry about getting the wrong bag for your mat, or worry about having to purchase another bag if your mat needs replacing.
With quick-release buckles, you won’t have to worry about struggling to get your mat out once you’re in class, and they provide optimal accessibility to make things a bit easier on you.
The large storage pocket in front is perfect for placing valuables, or even other items such as a hand towel. Designed for weather and water resistance, your valuables, smartphone, and other items will be shielded well against the elements, so this is a pretty good option for commuting. Keep in mind that while it is water-resistant, this bag does not cover the entire length of most mats, so it won’t be fully-protected.
The bag only comes in two colors as of now: black and a kind of electric blue, so if you’re going for fashion, this may not be the yoga tote for you.
What We Liked
- Made of very durable polyester
- Weather and water-resistant
- Features pockets for valuables and smartphone
What We Didn’t Like
- Doesn’t protect entire length of mat
Yoga Sak – Editor’s Favorite
Are you on the prowl for a practical, yet versatile and fashionable yoga bag? If you are, then you need to check out the Yoga Sak; a multi-purpose sports bag with an array of useful features that you’re going to love.
The Yoga Sak has received acclaimed reviews calling it one of the best yoga mat bags on the market. While yoga mat sling bags are the norm, the Yoga Sak is in the form of a backpack. If you live in a city or find yourself walking around before or after your yoga sessions, then you’re going to love this bag.
Made from 420D twill polyester, it’s easily one of the most durable bags on the market, today. Quickly secure your mat with straps and buckle it inside with the wrap exterior with snap buckles, which easily adjust to hold just about any mat size you have.
The inside bottom strap has a kind of cross-over bottom so it doesn’t slide out of the bottom or anything. The shoulder straps are also adjustable to fit your height and preferences.
If you’re dealing with the elements, there’s also a zippered compartment at the top of the bag which holds a cover you can pull down to shield the exposed part of your mat!
How is it on pockets?
Better than most bags, that’s for sure! The yoga mat backpack features a special ID holder and a hidden pocket, so you can hold all your valuables, plus any other extras you may want to carry along, like a hand towel, straps, and a block. Oh, and it also has a water bottle holder, as well!
The only thing we weren’t completely impressed with, is that while it is definitely durable, the materials aren’t the most “luxurious” or soft.
What We Liked
- Features various pockets, including an ID holder and water bottle holder
- Very durable construction
- Flap at top comes out to protect exposed part of mat during rain/snow
- Comes in variety of attractive colors/patterns
What We Didn’t Like
- Fabric isn’t very “luxurious” or soft to the touch
Gaiam Yoga Duffle – Best Product for Lots of Supplies
Gaiam is one of the most notable companies in the yoga world, and for plenty of reasons. Each of their products is designed with their consumers’ needs in mind, which is probably why they’re so successful.
Well, that, and they just produce really fashionable useful products!
The Gaiam Yoga Duffle Bag is one of their top-selling items, and we understand why. It keeps all of your essentials (and more) no matter where you are, and on top of that, it comes in an array of trendy colors and designs!
The mat carrier on the front is perhaps the most important feature of this yoga bag and it’s constructed as a front slide-through flap which securely holds most sizes of yoga mats. You’ll also notice several pockets on the bag; one is on the outside of the mat flap, and is great for holding quick-access items.
The inside/main pocket is large enough to fit any essentials and more. We were able to fit hand towels, a block, and a change of clothes. You know that feeling after yoga class where you feel like you could take on the world?
Except your clothes are all wet and you don’t want to bother the people next to you with any smells that may be emanating from them? Now, you don’t have to worry about that by just bringing along a fresh change of clothes in your duffel!
One thing we would like to mention that we weren’t huge fans of, was that the construction itself was a bit flimsy, which is a bit odd for Gaiam! Otherwise, we were very pleased.
What We Liked
- Comes in variety of colors
- Easily secure/take out yoga mat
- Comes with array of pockets
- Large main compartment to fit extras/clothes
What We Didn’t Like
- Construction is a bit flimsy
Aurorae Multi Purpose – Most Versatile Product
This Aurorae Yoga Mat Bag/Multi-Purpose Cross-Body Sling is one of the best yoga mat bags out there today, for a variety of reasons.
The multi-purpose sports sling bag is wonderful for the yoga studio, just as well as the gym, traveling, hiking, and just about any other activity you can imagine! Made of durable, heavy-duty polyester, it will hold up against conditions that other bags just simply can’t.
Right away, you’ll probably notice the modern, stylish design that comes in eight different colors: green, purple, red, blue, ebony, grey, purple stripe, green stripe, orange stripe, and yellow stripe.
The yoga tote features a specialized mat-locker system, which securely holds all Aurorae yoga mats, and the vast majority of dense rubber mats well.
In addition to holding your mat, it also features two main, large individual compartments so you can hold all of your yoga needs: blocks, straps, towels, shoes, clothes – whatever you need!
The main compartment also fits most notebook computers, which is wonderful if you need a bag to take to school or work, as well as something to hold your mat!
The double-reinforced shoulder strap is wide and easily-adjustable so you’re comfortable. It has a locking buckle for easy entry, and a built-in cell phone pocket right over your shoulder for quick and easy access.
The front flap pocket has specialized wet liners to store your clothes after your workout, or if you like swimming after yoga, you can hold your swimwear in there, too! A built-in side water bottle pocket will help to keep you refreshed after a good session, and will leave you with your hands-free.
Now on to what we didn’t like:
Really, there wasn’t much. One was that the bag was a bit smaller than we’d anticipated, but it was still large enough to hold everything we needed, and more. The other thing is that there isn’t a whole lot of protection for the mat if it rains or snows. Other than that, we loved it!
What We Liked
- Comes in 8 different colors/patterns
- Lined pocket to hold wet clothing
- Large compartments can hold most notebook laptops and change of clothes
What We Didn’t Like
- Bit smaller than we thought
- Not a lot of mat protection from the elements
Best X – Buyer’s Guide
Choosing the best yoga mat bag for you and your individual needs can be an overwhelming process. You may be wondering if your new bag will fit your mat, or if it will hold everything you need it to. We understand! That’s why we’ve created a quick buying guide for you below, to help make sure you’re purchasing the best product for you!
Choose a fabric that’s breathable or at least has some kind of method of ventilation. Many times you’ll see this in the form of some kind of netting or a type of built-in antimicrobial element. Ideally, the fabric of the bag will also be washable or made of a composite material able to withstand a disinfectant.
In addition, If you live somewhere that’s not sunny all the time, you’re going to want to get a bag that offers some kind of protection against the elements for your mat. Maybe that’s just a flap at the top; it doesn’t have to be complete protection unless you want/need it to be.
Comfort is important, right? Many people don’t like using sling bags because it gives them neck or shoulder pain. If this is you, then perhaps you’d be wise to look into a gym-style tote or even a backpack that can more evenly disperse the weight.
In addition, make sure to look into the shoulder straps and see if they’re adjustable at all. Not every length of the strap is going to work for every person, and it’s really important in terms of comfort.
Most likely, you’re going to carry at least one other item with you to class, aside from your mat. That may be keys, your ID, and your credit card, or if you are really a busybody, it could mean an extra change of clothes, swimwear, different shoes, blocks, a hand towel, and water bottle!
Think about your particular needs; do you like going out and about when you’re done with class? If so, then you may want to look into a larger bag like a duffel or backpack-style tote.
Most people at least consider how the bag looks to some extent. It may not be a determining factor in your decision-making process, but who doesn’t love a bag they like to look at?
If that’s your case, then choose a bag that can come in a variety of different colors or patterns for you to choose from; many just come in one or two colors, but it’s always kind of nice having a bag that matches your yoga mat, or that’s in your favorite color or a pattern that makes you smile.
We truly were impressed with each one of the yoga mat bags we’ve presented you with today, but there was one that really stood out to us in every way: the Yoga Sak.
The Yoga Sak is already known for being one of the best on the market, so we weren’t too surprised when we thought the same. The bag features a very unique, open backpack-type design which is not only comfortable but makes accessing your items very quick and easy.
It holds your ID and other valuables in a dedicated pocket but also features a secret hidden pocket if you’d like to keep them in there. The construction is some of the most durable we’ve seen, and in addition to that, it protects yoga mats very well and comes in an array of attractive colors and patterns.
So, which of the best yoga mat bags are you putting in your cart today?
